Sofia Stevi

Sofia Stevi is an artist living and working in Athens. Her paintings depict flowing interpretations of materiality in a universe where dreams are a construct of everyday experiences, bodies are in flux, chance takes on permanent substance, and time and space collide.

Sofia Stevi has exhibited work at Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, United Kingdom; Onassis Foundation Stegi, Greece; and The Benaki Museum, among others.

‘Daemonic Ecran Vivant’ is a moving portrait based on the concept of Tableau Vivant. The piece operates on specific hand drawn animated loops. The emphasis is placed on the movement of bodies, human, non-human, and more-than-human. It investigates how such movements can be perceived as dance for various concepts & species and the atmospheres that these create. If we consider life cycles as an expression of symbiosis then we can easily discern a ritual of perpetual transformation: the choreography of life. Image #2

Helena Keskküla

Helena Keskküla works with a variety of mediums including video, performance, and installation. She uses comedy, self-consciousness, and failures to address universal topics. Her artistic practice has recently centered on mythology and stone carving, which she combines with performance and contemporary materials. She graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts in 2015 and received her master’s degree from the Sandberg Institute, Gerrit Rietveld Academy in 2021.

Helena Keskküla has exhibited work at Vleeshal Center for Contemporary Art, The Netherlands; Contemporary Art Museum of Estonia, Estonia; and Avangard Galerii, Estonia, among others.

“Moss Doesn’t Grow…” is a series of works about a not-so-mythological woman’s journey to become a stone carver. The works draw inspiration from Estonian mythology and revolve around Linda, the mother of the Estonian hero Kalevipoeg. Linda has found a new life and voice in contemporary Amsterdam, while struggling with a big boulder in the middle of her bedroom.

Alicia Grullón

Alicia Grullón is a Bronx-based artist and organizer. Grullon’s social practice work extends to exploring how people relate to land in order to rally a transformation of our living by using performance and self-portraiture as a critique on the politics of presence, an argument for the inclusion of underinvested communities in political and social spheres. She is a Moore College of Art and Design Walentas Fellow for 2020-2022, and teaches at Queens College.

Alicia Grullón has exhibited work at Wallach Art Gallery, Columbia University; Bronx Museum of the Arts; and BRIC Arts Media House, all in New York, among others.

Breaking News is a short video looking at the migrant crisis at the US-Mexico border. Through the point of view of Jaquin Caal Maquin, the first child reported to have died while in ICE custody, I re-imagined her as the United Nations High Commissioner of Refugees proposing new resolutions calling for no ICE presence, open borders and control of the UN by indigenous people of the global south and Western Hemisphere.
